Whilst Studying my Ba at Nottingham Trent, Kin design came and set us a brief to explore how data collection can improve our lives! Inspired by research into the Netherlands balanced lifestyle, I have created a product that helps manage time. This has been proven to help decrease stress and help prevent anxiety.
The two focus points are time at work and time for yourself. By recording the duration of time spent in each environment, the device can visually represent how the two balance out. Using scales to communicate to the user, it aims for a balanced lifestyle that teaches basic time management. The simplistic form helps by being compact and mobile. It is designed to be moved about with ease in a range of environments making it extremely user-friendly.
This kinetic product works with a gyroscope that tilts towards either work or life suggesting that there is too much time spent in that environment which is shown by glowing red. It is powered simply by a USB port that is located on the back, along with the power button and the sync button which uses Bluetooth.
Data that is collected by the product is linked to a mobile device and accessed by an application. To collect this data, the GPS in the mobile device is needed to track the location of the user. In the 'location' part of the application, a map can be used to pinpoint significant locations such as work-related, home or other. Once in the proximity of these pinpoints, the mobile device will send up to date data to the product. Adjustment tools are available for the user to tailor and manage.
