Factor Us In was a brief put together by the British Motor Museum in Warwickshire. The focal point of the exhibition was to engage with the communities around the car factories of the West Midlands. Also, to include the impact of existing and former factories on the workers alongside their communities and the affects on surrounding landscape.
For contextual background we used wall graphics and digital screens around the outside of the exhibition to inform the visitors of the everchanging landscape, the tight connected communities that were formed, consistent strikes and the legacy left behind. This was so that we could then focus in and set the scene in a literal way to tell the stories of the people.
We did this by choosing places that we felt from our research were rich in community spirit that we can relate to today. These being a Social Club, Corner Shop and home environment to exhibit objects of the time and also use digital media to help tell the personal stories. In the very centre of the space is a phone box and bench where visitors are encouraged to add to the exhibition with their own personal experiences as this is a community that is still around today.
